Malaysia Tourism -2025
Tourist arrivals in Malaysia rise 14.5% to hit 28.24 million in the first eight months of 2025.
This indicates positive growth in foreign tourist arrivals in Malaysia,” the ministry said in a written parliamentary reply on Oct 8. "It also shows strong and sustainable momentum in the post-pandemic period,” it added.
The ministry stated this dispels perceptions that the national tourism sector is slow. Regarding the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, aggressive marketing and promotions are ongoing both domestically and internationally.
History of Malaysia
Malaysia's history spans from early human habitation and ancient kingdoms to British colonial rule and eventual independence in 1957 for the Federation of Malaya. Its strategic location influenced Indian and Chinese trade, the rise of Islamic sultanates like the powerful Malacca Sultanate, and later European colonization beginning with the Portuguese, followed by the Dutch, and finally the British. The British developed a colonial economy based on tin and rubber, and after a Japanese occupation during World War II, the movement for independence intensified, leading to the formation of the Federation of Malaya and, later, Malaysia in 1963.
